How a job runs

6-Steps from Quote to Warranty

The same sequence every time, so there is never a question about what happens next or when the boat comes back.

01

Quote

Send photos or bring the boat by. We give you a written price and an honest timeline, not an optimistic one.

02

Deposit

Fifty percent to start, and that books your slot. The balance is due on delivery, not before.

03

Materials

We order your vinyl, foam and thread. Sunbrella, Spradling and Morbern, with Gore-Tenara thread and 316 stainless staples.

04

Build

Pattern, cut, sew, fit. Diamond stitching matched to your factory pattern, or to whatever you have designed with us.

05

Install

We fit it to the boat and check every panel, snap and track before you see it.

06

Warranty

You get your signed craftsmanship warranty, with the terms in full and the maintenance that keeps it active. Two years on every job, from the day the boat is delivered.

Sometimes we pull an interior apart and find the PVC underneath cracked or broken, or the foam broken down and falling apart, sometimes with mildew or pink mold through it. When that happens we stop, show you what we found, and give you the options and the cost in writing. You decide whether we carry on. Nothing goes on an invoice that you have not already agreed to.

Warranty

Two-year Craftsmanship Warranty

Twenty-four months from the day your boat is delivered. Every job, whatever we built and whatever you run. The warranty covers the original owner and does not transfer if the boat is sold.

What we cover, at no cost

  • Stitching and seams: unravelling, tearing or separation of structural seams and decorative piping
  • Fit and tension: severe loosening, stretching or shifting of cushion panels beyond normal break-in
  • Fasteners and hardware: loosening or failure of snaps, staples, tracking or backing frames we installed

Materials

  • Marine canvas carries the manufacturer's five to ten year limited warranty against severe fading and loss of strength
  • Premium vinyls carry the manufacturer's UV and mildew-resistance guidelines
  • If a material fails under its own warranty the supplier replaces the raw material. Labour to re-pattern is the owner's cost unless the manufacturer covers it

What it does not cover

  • Sunscreen and suntan lotion staining, bug spray, fuel spills
  • Bleach, harsh or acid-based cleaners, abrasive scrubbing
  • Pressure washing damage, including split seams and water forced through vinyl backing
  • Mould and mildew growth, which is a maintenance issue rather than a craftsmanship defect
  • Zippers and enclosure tracks after the first ninety days

Keeping it active

  • Rinse with fresh water after every trip
  • Soft microfibre mitt and a mild pH-neutral boat soap
  • UV protectant every thirty to forty-five days, or a professional ceramic coating
  • Never snap a storage cover over damp cushions

About

You have probably had an interior done before.

If you have had one done in South Florida, you probably know how it usually goes. A date you were given that came and went. A price that grew after the boat was already in the shop. Calls that stopped getting returned.

If you have never had upholstery work done before, those three things are exactly what to watch for, and they are worth knowing before you decide to work with anyone and hand them a deposit. Ask how they arrive at your timeline, and what happens when it moves. Ask what happens to the price if they open a cushion and find rot or broken foam underneath. Ask who you call, and how fast they answer, when the boat is three weeks past the date. A shop that gives you a straight answer to all three is a shop worth using, whether or not it turns out to be this one.

We built Rivers Refined around not being that shop.

Shaun Rivers has been a professional upholsterer since 2012, trained at WyoTech, and has spent the last fourteen years on the tools. Rivers Refined has run out of Oakland Park since 2023. Most of our work now is Nor-Tech, because that is what we chose to get very good at.

South Florida is hard on an interior. Sun, salt and speed break down seams, foam and vinyl faster than anywhere else in the country, and a lot of what we replace was built for a milder climate than this one. We use Sunbrella, Spradling and Morbern vinyls, Gore-Tenara thread and 316 stainless staples, because those are the ones that survive here.

Our materials come from the same local suppliers Nor-Tech sources from. Being in South Florida, in the same supply chain as the factory, is the reason we can put a boat back to factory colour and texture instead of finding something close.

The two-year warranty is not a marketing line. It is a signed document, and the terms are published above so you can read them before you spend anything.

Two ways to start

Photos First, Price Follows.

Most quotes come back within one business day, usually the same afternoon.

Send us photos

A wide shot of the cockpit and a few close-ups of the worst seams is usually enough. We can often quote from photos alone, without you bringing the boat in.

Request a quote

Would rather just talk it through?

Book a fifteen minute call. We will ask about the boat, what you want done, and give you a straight answer on cost and timing.

Book a call
Our process

Every stage your interior passes through.

Most shops will tell you they do good work. This is the actual sequence, in order, so you can judge for yourself. Eleven stages, all of them under one roof in Oakland Park.

01
First contact

The quote

Tell us the boat and what you want done. Photos are the fastest route: a wide shot of the cockpit and a few close-ups of the worst seams is usually enough to price the job without you driving anywhere. We come back with a written price and an honest timeline, not an optimistic one. On the 340 and 390 Sport we quote off our standing packages. Everything else is priced per hull.

02
Booking

Deposit and your slot

Fifty percent starts the job and books your place in the shop. That deposit covers your materials and the first stretch of labour. The balance is due when the boat is finished and delivered, never before. We only take on what we can finish properly, so your date is a real date rather than a queue position.

03
Measurement

Templating and patterning

We take the old interior apart and pattern from the actual panels, not from generic dimensions. This is the stage where we find out what a boat has really been through: how the substrate has held up, where water has been sitting, whether anyone has been in there before us. Anything we find gets photographed and sent to you before we go further.

04
Specification

Materials and design

You choose colours and pattern off real sample cards, not a screen, because vinyl never looks the same on a monitor as it does in Florida sun. We work in Sunbrella, Spradling and Morbern for skins, Gore-Tenara and SolarFix thread, closed-cell and Dryfast foams, and 316 stainless staples. If you want a diamond, hex or custom quilt, this is where the pattern gets decided.

We buy from the same local suppliers Nor-Tech buys from. The vinyl, foam and thread going back into your boat come off the same rolls, from the same houses, as the material the factory used to build it. That is why a Factory Standard Refresh matches, rather than approximately matches.

05
CNC

Digital cutting

Patterns are cut on our CNC table. Cutting digitally means every panel on your boat matches every other panel, and it means that if you come back to us in four years for a repair we can cut the same part again exactly. Hand-cutting cannot promise either of those things.

06
Foam

Foam and substrate

Foam is replaced where it needs replacing and rebuilt where the shape has collapsed. On the packages that call for it, the whole interior gets new foam throughout. Substrate gets inspected at the same time. If the PVC underneath is cracked or broken, or the foam has gone through and taken mildew or pink mold with it, we stop here and show you before anything else happens.

07
Quilting

Stitching and quilt work

Diamond, hex or bespoke pattern, stitched on industrial machines set up for marine vinyl. The quilt is matched to your factory pattern if you want the boat to look the way it did new, or drawn from scratch if you do not. Thread colour is your call, and it is the detail people notice first.

08
Branding

Logos and embroidery

Nor-Tech lettering is cut and stitched as an appliqué, not printed or heat-pressed, so it will not lift or crack the way a transfer does. Boat names, hull numbers and custom embroidery go on at this stage. This is the difference between an interior that looks re-done and one that looks factory.

09
Assembly

Tack-on and build-up

Skins are pulled over foam and fastened with 316 stainless staples, which is the grade that survives salt air. Ordinary staples rust from the inside and stain a cushion from underneath, and by the time you can see it the damage is done. Every panel is checked for tension here, because a cushion that is loose on the bench will be loose on the water.

10
Fitting

Install

We fit the interior to the boat ourselves rather than shipping you parts and wishing you luck. Every snap, track and fastener is checked on the boat, in place. If something needs adjusting it gets adjusted here, before you ever see it.

11
Handover

Warranty and care

You get your signed craftsmanship warranty with the terms in full, plus the maintenance schedule that keeps it active. Two years on every job, whatever we built. We tell you exactly what will and will not void it, in writing, on the day you take the boat. Then we are still here, in the same shop, if you need us.

One thing we do not do. We do not surprise you. If the job changes, you hear about it while there is still a decision to make, with photographs and a written cost. Nothing goes on an invoice that you have not already agreed to.

General

What does Rivers Refined do?

We rebuild marine interiors. Upholstery, canvas and EVA flooring for high-performance center consoles. Most of our work is Nor-Tech, and we also build for Midnight Express, Cigarette, Deep Impact, MTI and anything else running out of South Florida.

How long have you been doing this?

Shaun Rivers trained at WyoTech and has been a professional upholsterer since 2012. Rivers Refined was founded in 2016 and has run out of the Oakland Park shop since 2023.

Where are you located?

1063 NE 43rd St, Oakland Park, Florida, a few minutes north of Fort Lauderdale. We offer dock-side pick-up and service all of South Florida. Work further afield is possible and carries a travel fee or freight cost.

Do you only work on Nor-Tech?

No. Nor-Tech is what we specialize in and it is the majority of what comes through the shop, but we take work on any high-performance center console. We also do standalone cushions, canvas and flooring on smaller boats.

Products and services

Can you make custom upholstery for my boat?

Yes. Everything we build is made for your boat specifically. We pattern off your actual panels rather than working from generic dimensions, so nothing is off the shelf.

Can I change the colours from what they are now?

Yes. You choose from real vinyl sample cards rather than a screen, because vinyl never looks the same on a monitor as it does in Florida sun. Plenty of owners use a refit as the moment to change the boat completely.

Can I change the style of the graphics and stitching?

Yes. We can match your factory pattern exactly if you want the boat to look the way it did new, or draw something from scratch. Diamond, hex and custom quilts are all on the table, and thread colour is your call.

Can you recover my existing cushions instead of building new?

Yes, where the substrate and foam are still sound. If we open a cushion and find the PVC cracked or the foam broken down, we will tell you and show you before we go any further. Recovering over failed foam is a false economy and we will not do it quietly.

Do you make canvas, bimini tops and covers?

Yes. Canvas is a core part of what we do, priced at $125 per foot of labour plus material. We work in Stamoid, WeatherMax and Sunbrella.

Do you do EVA flooring?

Yes. Marine EVA flooring is quoted per job and is usually done alongside an interior so the pattern and colour match.

How we work

Do I need to bring you my boat?

Usually yes, and that is deliberate. Fitting the interior to the boat ourselves is how we catch the problems that only show up in place. For smaller jobs, standalone cushions or seats, you can drop the parts off without the boat.

Do you install, or do I have to find someone?

We install. Some shops build the parts and hand you a box. We fit every panel, snap and track on the boat and check it before you see it.

How long will you have my boat?

It depends on the size of the job and what we find when we open it up. You get a real timeline at quote, not an optimistic one, and if something moves it you hear it from us before you have to ask. We would rather give you a date we can hold than one that sounds good.

Can I see it while it is being built?

Yes. It is your boat. Call ahead so we know you are coming and someone is free to walk you through where it is.

Pricing

What does a full interior cost?

For the Nor-Tech 340 and 390 Sport we run three standing packages and will send you the full sheet the same day you ask. Every other boat is quoted per hull, because no two of those interiors are the same job. Standalone cushions run $295 each and canvas is $125 per foot of labour plus material.

Why is the pricing not just published on the site?

The 340 and 390 sheets are published, and we will send them to anyone who asks with no call required. Beyond those two boats a number on a page would be a guess, and a guess that turns into a different invoice later is exactly the thing we built this shop not to do.

Will the price change once you start?

The price we quote is the price you pay. Nothing changes without your say so. If we open an interior and find something underneath that changes the work, we stop, photograph it, and give you the options and the cost in writing. You decide whether we carry on.

What do you need to start?

Fifty percent deposit. That covers materials and the first stretch of labour, and it books your slot. The balance is due on delivery.

How do I pay?

Card, Zelle, check or wire. Card payments carry a 3.5 percent processing fee, which appears as its own line on the invoice rather than being buried in the price.

Materials and quality

What materials do you use?

Sunbrella, Spradling and Morbern marine vinyls. Gore-Tenara and SolarFix thread. Closed-cell and Dryfast foams. 316 stainless staples. Stamoid, WeatherMax and Sunbrella canvas. These are the ones that survive South Florida, which is a harder environment on an interior than almost anywhere else in the country.

Where do your materials come from?

The same local suppliers Nor-Tech sources from. We are in South Florida, in the same supply chain as the factory, which means the vinyl and foam going back into your boat come from the same houses that supplied it when it was built.

That is the practical reason a factory colour match is a real match rather than a close approximation. A shop working from a different supplier is matching by eye off a sample card.

Why does 316 stainless matter?

Ordinary staples rust from the inside out in salt air. They stain a cushion from underneath, and by the time you can see the mark the damage is already done. 316 is the marine grade and it is what we use throughout.

How do I clean it?

Fresh water rinse after every trip. Soft microfibre mitt and a mild pH-neutral boat soap. UV protectant every thirty to forty-five days, or a professional ceramic coating. Never snap a cover over damp cushions. Every vinyl manufacturer publishes its own approved product list and we hand you the sheet for yours at delivery.

What will ruin it fastest?

Sunscreen, bleach-based cleaners and pressure washing, in that order. Pressure washing is the one that surprises people: it splits seams and forces water through the vinyl backing, and it is not covered by any warranty including ours.

Warranty

Is my deposit refundable?

No. The fifty percent deposit is non-refundable, and we would rather say that here than in the small print.

Here is why. Nothing happens on your boat until that deposit clears, and then several things happen at once that cannot be undone. We order your material, which is cut and dyed to your job and cannot go back on the shelf. We build patterns to your hull. We block bench time that we then turn other work away to protect. By the time you would see anything, the money is already spent on your boat specifically.

You will be told this in writing, and asked to acknowledge it, immediately before you pay anything. Nobody should be surprised by it.

I am not in Florida. Can you still help me?

Often, yes.

Nor-Tech owners: we service out of state. Travel is quoted separately as a travel fee or freight cost, and it is itemised on the estimate before you commit to anything.

Every other manufacturer: for now, the boat or the components need to come to us in Oakland Park. We hope that changes, and we will say so here when it does.

In South Florida we offer dock-side pick-up and there is no travel charge.

What does the warranty cover?

Twenty-four months from delivery on our labour and assembly: stitching and seams, fit and tension, and any fastener or hardware we installed. The full terms, including what is excluded and the maintenance that keeps it active, are published on our homepage. You get a signed copy on the day you take the boat.

Which jobs get the two-year warranty?

All of them. A full package, a repair, a single cushion, a canvas job on its own: every job carries the same twenty-four months, in writing, whatever you run.

One thing to know: the warranty covers you, the original owner. It does not transfer if you sell the boat. The new owner has no warranty from us. That is standard across most trades, and we would rather you heard it from us now than found out later.

What about the materials themselves?

Those carry the manufacturer's own warranty, typically five to ten years against severe fading or loss of strength, and we pass that straight through to you. If a material fails under it, the supplier replaces the raw material. Labour to re-pattern is the owner's cost unless the manufacturer covers it.

Terms & Conditions

Marine Upholstery Craftsmanship & Service Agreement. Effective January 2026, amended August 2026. By signing an estimate, paying a deposit, or delivering a vessel or components into our custody, you agree to be bound by these terms.

1. Scope of Work & Estimates

All marine upholstery, canvas fabrication, flooring, styling or repair services are detailed in a written estimate or project invoice. Estimates are valid for thirty (30) days from issuance, after which material costs and labor rates are subject to adjustment based on prevailing market conditions in South Florida. Any modification, addition or change requested after the original estimate is documented in a written Change Order setting out additional labor, material costs and adjusted timelines, and must be approved by text, email or signature before work commences.

2. Project Timelines

All start dates, delivery windows and completion timelines are good-faith estimates only and are not strict contractual deadlines. Marine custom fabrication is subject to delays beyond our control, including material shortages, transit delays, weather affecting outdoor installation, and unforeseen structural complications. Delays do not entitle the Client to any discount, concession or price reduction. We will notify you promptly if an estimated completion date changes, and provide a revised estimate.

3. Payment & Deposits

A non-refundable deposit of fifty percent (50%) of the total estimate is required before scheduling, pattern-making or material procurement. On large refits, progress payments may be scheduled at milestones. The remaining fifty percent (50%) plus any accrued Change Orders is due on completion and before the vessel or components are released. Late payments past seven (7) business days from billing carry a finance charge of 1.5% per month (18% per annum), or the maximum rate permitted under Florida law, whichever is lower.

4. Vessel Care, Custody & Risk of Loss

Insurance: the Client warrants the vessel is fully insured under a comprehensive marine hull and liability policy, which is primary in the event of any loss, casualty or damage from fire, theft, vandalism, collision, dock failure or Force Majeure.

Hurricane and weather: in the event of a named storm or a tropical storm or hurricane watch or warning from the National Hurricane Center affecting the service location, the Client is responsible for securing, removing or relocating the vessel. We do not assume responsibility for hurricane preparation, evacuation, or damage from Acts of God.

Workspace: for mobile work at a private dock, marina or shipyard, the Client must provide clean, safe access with shore power (110V/30AMP minimum) and freshwater.

Service area and travel: we provide dock-side pick-up and service all of South Florida at no additional travel charge. Work outside South Florida, including out-of-state, is available and will carry a travel fee or freight shipping cost, itemised in the written estimate.

5. Approvals & Variances

Material matches: we use premium marine-grade vinyls, canvas and threads, but exact colour matches across manufacturer dye lots cannot be guaranteed. UV exposure and pre-existing weathering cause variation between old and new material.

Design tolerances: minor wrinkles, contours and natural variation in canvas tension, foam density and vinyl seating are characteristics of custom marine upholstery and are not defects.

Client approvals: the Client verifies design, colour, stitching and piping before fabrication. Changes of preference after fabrication are billable Change Orders.

6. Substructure & Hidden Defects

Estimates are based on visual inspection of exterior elements. Stripping old skins, fabric or foam frequently reveals hidden defects: rotted plywood or composite backing, degraded fiberglass framing, rusted fasteners, or hidden organic growth and mould. We are not liable for structural remediation or hidden defects. Where these are found we halt work and notify you immediately, and any structural repair is itemised in a separate Change Order.

7. Limited Warranty

Craftsmanship warranty: a two (2) year limited warranty covering failures in stitching, seam binding and direct installation craftsmanship, from the date of final delivery. This warranty is non-transferable and applies exclusively to the original Client. If the vessel is sold, the new owner is not covered.

Material warranties: warranties for fabrics, vinyls, foams, flooring and fasteners are provided by their manufacturers and passed through to you. We do not independently warrant materials against UV degradation, mould or mildew growth, staining or chemical damage.

Exclusions: commercial overuse, neglect, improper cleaning (including bleach or high-pressure washers), trailering canvas above its design speed limits, and general wear and tear.

8. Liens & Storage

Pursuant to Chapters 713 and 328 of the Florida Statutes, we reserve possessory lien rights over any vessel, motor, trailer or components serviced, for unpaid balances, labor or materials. If a project is complete and the Client fails to pay the final invoice or to arrange collection within five (5) business days of notice of completion, storage accrues at $50.00 per day for components or $150.00 per day for vessels, payable in full before release.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by Florida law, our total aggregate liability for any claim, loss, injury or damage arising out of this agreement, from any cause including negligence, strict liability or breach of contract, shall not exceed the total sum actually paid by the Client for the specific project from which the liability arose. We are not liable for incidental, consequential, special, punitive or indirect damages, including loss of use, lost charter revenue, slip fees, captain fees or alternate transportation.

10. Governing Law & Venue

This agreement is governed by the laws of the State of Florida. Exclusive venue for any mediation, arbitration or litigation is the state courts of the county in which Rivers Refined, LLC maintains its primary business operations in South Florida. In any litigation or collection action to enforce or interpret this agreement, the prevailing party is entitled to recover reasonable attorney's fees, paralegal fees, court costs and collection expenses at trial and on appeal.

11. Severability & Entire Agreement

If any provision is held invalid, illegal or unenforceable, the remainder of this agreement remains in full force. This document is the entire agreement between Rivers Refined, LLC and the Client and supersedes all prior oral or written representations. By signing, by making payment, or by delivering property into our custody, the Client acknowledges they have read, understood and accepted these terms.

Questions about any of this? Call the shop on (954) 390-1100 or email shaun@riversrefined.com. We would rather explain a term than have you sign something you are unsure about.

Privacy Policy

What we collect, why, who else touches it, and how to get it back or have it deleted. Written to be read, not to be survived.

Who we are

Rivers Refined, LLC, 1063 NE 43rd St, Oakland Park, Florida 33334. Questions about this policy: shaun@riversrefined.com or (954) 390-1100.

What we collect

When you request a quote: your name, phone, email, boat manufacturer, model and year, the work you want done, photographs of your boat, its condition, your timing, where the boat is kept, how you found us, and for repairs your Hull Identification Number.

When you book a call: your name, email, phone, and your answer to what boat you have and what you are looking to have done.

When you request package pricing: your name, email, phone if you choose to give it, your boat, and the package you are interested in.

Automatically: IP address, browser and device type, pages visited. This comes from Squarespace, which hosts the site.

We do not collect card numbers, bank details, Social Security numbers or government identification through this website.

Why we collect it

To price your job, build your interior, call you back when you ask, send the price sheet you requested, honour your warranty, and keep our own records of work we have done. We do not sell your information. We do not rent it, trade it, or share it for anyone else's advertising.

Who else touches it

Squarespace hosts the site and records basic analytics. Jotform runs the quote form including photo uploads. Google handles our booking page, email, records and the fonts this site loads. YouTube serves build videos, and nothing loads from YouTube until you click a video. Striven is our customer and job management system. Authorize.net, PayPal, Zelle and Cash App handle payments when you choose to pay that way, and they handle card and bank details directly. We never see or store your full card number.

Loading this site sends your IP address to Google, because the fonts are served by Google. That is standard for most websites and we would rather tell you than leave it out.

Photographs of your boat

Photographs you send us are used to price and build your job. We may also show finished work publicly, on this site or on social media, because that is how people find us. If we do, we will not publish your name, your Hull Identification Number, your registration, your marina, or anything else identifying you or where the boat is kept, unless you tell us we can. If you would rather we never publish photographs of your boat at all, say so and we will note it on your job.

How long we keep it

Enquiries that never become jobs: two years, then deleted. Completed job records: seven years after the work is finished, because warranty claims, tax records and any dispute about work we did all depend on those records existing.

Your choices

Email shaun@riversrefined.com and we will tell you what we hold, correct anything wrong, or delete it unless we are required to keep it for tax or warranty reasons, in which case we will tell you which and for how long. We respond within thirty days and there is no charge. To stop marketing emails, use the unsubscribe link or just reply and ask. That does not affect emails about a job you have booked.

Cookies

Squarespace sets cookies so the site works and so we can see basic visit numbers. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, though parts of the site may not work as well. We do not run advertising or retargeting pixels.

If you are in California or the EU

We are a small marine upholstery shop in Florida and are almost certainly below the revenue thresholds that make the California Consumer Privacy Act or the Florida Digital Bill of Rights binding on us. We are not claiming those laws apply. We will honour the substance of them anyway: tell us what you want done with your information and we will do it.

Children

Enquiries reach us over encrypted connections and are held in access-controlled accounts. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure and we are not going to promise otherwise. What we can promise is that we do not keep what we do not need, and we do not pass it to anyone who does not need it.

If this policy changes we will update it here. Questions: shaun@riversrefined.com.

A wide shot of the cockpit and a few close-ups of the worst seams is usually enough. Most quotes come back within one business day, usually the same afternoon. If we need to see the boat in person before we can price it honestly, we will tell you rather than guess.

Would rather talk it through first?

We will call the number you give us. If none of these times work, send photos through the quote form instead and we will price it from those.

Hats and shirts, built to the same standard as the interiors. Sun-ready fabrics, embroidered rather than printed, because a heat-pressed logo does not last a Florida summer.

This page is a layout, not a live store. The two shirt designs are real. The three caps are placeholders and need photographs, and every price is a starting point for you to change. Before it goes live it needs your final pricing, sizes and stock, and a checkout connected to a payment processor. Everything on the interiors side of the site can launch without any of that.
